I am so happy that Mike Berenstain continues to create the delightful Berenstain Bear adventures that his parents, Stan and Jan began back in 1962!

There is always a wonderful lesson to be learned each time those fun-loving bears get involved in something new and this time, they're bringing their pets to church!

I've heard of the Annual Blessing of the Animals before, usually close to the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi on the first Sunday in October, but I usually hear of these events taking place in large, outdoor parks.

A large, outdoor venue just wouldn't do in Bear Country, however.

Oh, no, for Preacher Brown invites the parishioners of the Chapel in the Woods to bring their animals - great and small - right onto the front lawn of the church with them on Sunday!

The cubs are thrilled at the idea of bringing their pets with them to church!

This might not seem too risky with the Berenstain cubs' pets (a dog, a cat, a fish, a bird), but when the small space is bursting with goats, cows, snakes, ponies and a handful of geese, pandemonium ensues.

All I could think of when I saw this page was the "pandalerium" bit from this guy!

After a bit of wrangling, Preacher Brown manages to call for peace and bless all those ornery critters, sending everyone off to fellowship and fun with their four-legged family members.

Bonus! We were thrilled to discover a fun word search in the back of the book!

I feel little paperback picture books like this one are a fabulous addition to your home library (and inexpensive, too!). They're not too long, not too complicated, and allow you to share some good, wholesome fun with your children as you follow this bear family into their latest pickle.

Flipping through the illustrations of this book can begin at birth, but I suspect this book really becomes a hit during the early preschool years on into the middle of elementary school.

These are just great little books for every family to own!
